Hemlock's Recipes Mid Levels Escalator Spicy Soup Noodles A taste of Korea |
To serve 2... Ingredients 1 pack of "mat" kimchi 1 pack of Japanese ramen (with soup base) 1 pack of pork medallions (or other lean, chop-able pork) Method Multi-tasking.... Grill or fry the pork until well-done, and chop into bite-size pieces if necessary. Meanwhile, bring a large pan of water to the boil. Distribute the soup base (probably in the form of 2 packs each of dark oily gunge and grey-white gunge) between 2 large serving bowls. When water boils, pour some of it into each bowl and stir, to make soup. Return the rest of the water to the boil, and add the ramen. Divide the the pork and kimchi between the two bowls of soup and stir. Drain the ramen when done (1-2 minutes) and add to the 2 bowls of soup, stirring again. Eat with spoon and chopsticks with great gusto. This will be a fairly spicy dish, so no seasoning (salt, pepper, etc) should be required, though a few drops of sesame oil on the soup would be nice. |
A classic dish from the Hong Kong Mid Levels All the ingredients are to be found in the same refrigerated cabinet in the Des Veoux Rd branch of Park n Shop near Hang Seng bank HQ near the bottom of the Mid Levels Escalator. Obviously, it is not unrelated to the Korean traditional dish, Kimchee Chighe, though this emerged only subsequent to its creation. |
Variations Pad it out with Radish (White Carrot) or Tofu Use Udon Noodles, or other types Use beef instead of pork Use other forms of kimchi (though the "mat" cabbage type is easily the best) |
