It's the cold, taxes and chavs for me. Will go back anyway, as locals, humidity and awful housing are worse.

Never read Catcher, never will. If you're not a teenager, there's no point, right?

Dear Casca...

I would presume that's one of the main reasons most of us live in Hong Kong...or at least dread returning to the west. Snow and taxes being my other two for not wanting to go back.

What middle-aged American male doesn't long to be a recluse? Have you met American women lately?

So, farewell then J D Salinger.
At last brown bread
Which is as reclusive as you can get.
Your name is an angram of Slang Ire
And Sale Grin.
Must be something there.
I never got to know Franny or Zooey
And probably you never did either.

Have never knowingly read that Catcher In The Rye book on the solid ground that it has long been an integral part of the American High School syllabus.

Salinger's whole reclusiveness smacks of his Holden's dismissive attitude towards people in general. It's pretty obvious he uses Holden to voice his own disdain for a world that he ultimately withdrew from in his holier-than-thou disgust.
