When I was living in the mainland, I used to read all the latest “China” books from most every genre. Then about two years before I bailed out, I started losing interest (and track) because they started coming out too frequently and pretty much were mostly vacuous.
Now I see reviews and ads for the latest and just don’t give a rat’s ass. Bottom line is: Who cares anymore? I don’t.
Any suggestions for other decent reading material Hemlock? Always happy with a good book…I have read most of your Hong Kong pile…
Pre-handover novels set in Hong Kong are genre of their own, especially if you are reading the ones about white people written by white people talking about white people handover issues
No copy of “Perfidious Albion” by William McGurn then of the WSJ Asia? Surprising.
